As a 10 year member of 4-H, I realize the huge impact that 4-H can have on a child’s life. As a youth, I participated in cooking, art, drama, and dogs. But my passion was Horse and Pony. I showed in the Boone County 4-H and was thrilled to show at The Indiana State Fair a number of times.

I would like to invite all Indiana families with children to join my children in participating in the Boone County Fair’s Dog Obedience Project. It is open to all Indiana children grades 3-12. It starts with a project fair in October. The project begins to train in March until the show in July every Thursday night at the Boone County Fairgrounds.

The Dog Project teaches your child to train their dog in Obedience, Showmanship, and Agility.

What do they learn?
First year students learn to heel their dogs, stand their dogs for exams, and recall which is to call their dog to them, to sit stay and down stay. Showmanship which is optional, teaches the child to show the dog as they would at a breed or open show. The dog is not judged on its breed but how the child shows it.

The deadline is DEC 15th for registration. Please contact Boone County Extension Office at 765-482-0750. The best part? Your child will learn to train his/her dog- and the total cost is $20! Call today and join the McMillan kids!

Last summer, Sweet Liberty had her final litter and the puppies have recently turned one. It has been an eventful year for this litter. Our girl, Kennedy from the litter will start her breeding career soon and has EXCELLENT hips and health testing. Below is a note and picture from Sharon and Norm’s dog: Cassie.
Mindi,
I just wanted to send you several photos of Cassie’s 1st birthday party. She is growing up to be quite a young lady! You could not have chosen a better baby for us. She is terrific! We are getting ready in 2 weeks to take her Canine Good Citizen Test. Then we are on to the Therapy classes! She will do well because she just loves everyone, kids, other dogs, cats. Your babies are well socialized before they come to us, that is for sure! They are also so very smart! We can’t thank you enough! You do such a great job at raising your babies! Of course, we don’t want to forget to thank your children for their part in the babies socialization! I think also, Sweet Liberty and Sunny Sailor played a part in her greatness! Everyone that sees her or meets her, just loves her! I believe it is due to her sweet personality and disposition.
Here in Illinois, I have not seen one other Australian Labradoodle. You are more fortunate in Indiana. Mindi, I will keep you posted on her progress with her Therapy Program.

This summer was sad for me as I hugged my dear friend and CVL helper, Amy Sherer good-bye as her family moved to the small town of Dickinson, North Dakota. Amy has helped take pictures for me and helped on vet day for the last few years. She has fallen in love with the breed, and we laughed that there would probably be no labradoodles in ND!

Imagine my surprise this summer when the Erickson’s of Fargo, North Dakota contacted me for a puppy. The mom shared that she worked in Warsaw, IN and Indy a few times a year as a contractor. I shared with her that my friend Amy used to live in Warsaw and now lived in Dickinson. We both laughed at the coincidences and she offered to help introduce Amy to her family as her mom and sister now lives in Dickinson. In fact, her husband’s aunt works in Amy’s husband’s new law firm! What are the odds?

In July, we shipped her new puppy Turks to her in Fargo and last night I had the opportunity to meet the mom after all of our e-mails and phone calls. She was in Indy for work and stopped by. It was such a treat to meet a family face to face and for her to have peace of mind that we are legit and not just an internet front:). It felt like I had an old friend stop by and I will always be thankful that Turks went to the perfect home. I also realize how small the world is and we are closer than 6 degrees of separation.

Mindi,

We just wanted to drop you a note and let you know how much we are enjoying Kona. He is now 6 months old and we think he is about done growing (22 lbs.). He is all boy and he gets compliments quite often on his beautiful red coat, his mannerisms, and especially how smart he is! He enjoys riding in the car and going on walks. He even has a unique “yawn” in the morning or when he awakes from a nap! He has a slight “howl” as well and loves to greet us with it we when arrive home. (it’s like he is talking to us!)

He loves his brother and sister (sister shown in picture) and loves to play with toys and fetch. He is even learning to catch things! He especially likes to watch TV and is easily entertained with what is on.

We now notice other Labradoodles when we are out and several of them are from Colonial Village. Thanks again for choosing Kona for our family. We wouldn’t trade him for the world!

People ask me the secret to our breeding program and I have to say that not only are our dogs the best, but having 6 kids socialize puppies is an advantage that most breeders cannot offer. I love walking into our whelping area and seeing one of my kiddos playing with and cuddling puppies. They are so good at doing our early preparedness regime. Yesterday, I sneaked up on Molly singing to the Quads from Bella. Too cute!

This is a picture of Hope, she lives in a fabulous guardian home, The Kingsburys. In the next few months, we will have a number of guardian home possibilities for the right family. We are in the process of screening new families. This is a great opportunity to get a discount on a dog and then earn the purchase price of the dog back over time and upon completion of the dog’s breeding career.

Requirements of our guardian homes- you must live within 20 minutes of Zionsville, use only our approved vet, groomer, and trainer, and boarding facility. We do have a contract and the dog is never “owned” by the family until all breeding terms are completed. Many of our families love the arrangement so much that they guardian a second dog! Please send an e-mail describing your family to us and we will get back with you immediately.
