Our Story

We are Kyle and Mindi McMillan. We live on a small, family farm in rural Central Indiana. Our family has always loved animals and we have dogs, cats, chickens, and even Highland Cattle that live as treasured family members with us!

When one of our eight children was diagnosed with severe developmental delays, he used a Canine Companion to assist in his therapies. We were excited that he qualified for his own Canine Companion but knew that the labradors offered in the program would not work for our family as we were all allergic to our beloved lab, Xerxes, and could no longer keep him inside our home with all of the allergies. Looking into the perfect fit for our family, we found the Australian Multi-gen Labradoodle and knew we had found the right match! We purchased our first breeding girl from Adelaide, Australia and had never seen a labradoodle in person! Filigree walked off the plane and we were smitten. Our original breeding stock all originate from Australia and the established lines of Sunsethills, Rutland Manor, and Tegan Park. It is now possible to find wonderful dogs in the United States so we work with breeders in the US, too. We still look outside of the US for our stud dogs as that assists in diversifying our pedigrees. We have studs from Canada and Scotland!

Outreach

Every litter a portion of the proceeds from that litter is donated to help children locally and around the world. This past year, we shared with Str8 Up: a ministry serving inner city kids on the NW side of Indy, Safe Families: serving Central Indiana by helping keep families out of the foster care system, and helping  Mothers of Preschoolers in Romania. We also fully sponsor the education of a young student in Haiti through Nehemiah Vision Ministries. Due to our strong donation principles, we are unable to discount our puppies for families with disabilities. Trust us, our hearts are broken for these families but the requests are too numerous for us to help all of the families that contact us.

Some of our past donations: We were one of the major corporate donors for Noble of Indiana’s Orchard in Bloom for 2010. In 2006 and 2009, we donated a pup to Mothers of Preschoolers International (www.mops.org). In 2008, our donation was to Indiana Canine Assistance Network (www.ican.org) and assisted St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild benefitting Wishard Hospital in downtown Indianapolis. Mindi is a life member of St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild. Mindi is a life member of this fabulous organization that benefits Wishard Hospital. It has been our dream to start a therapy dog program with SMHG and Wishard. We were thrilled when Indiana Canine Assistance Network, ICAN (www.icandog.org) partnered with SMHG and Wishard to share the gift of Canine Companions.

Our 2018 Donation will be a puppy purchase price to MOPS Intl to fund MOPS groups in Romania. Want to know more about this fabulous ministry to moms? Ask us or check out www.mops.org. Better moms make a better world!  We will also continue our donations to Str8 Up, Safe Families for Children and Nehemiah Vision Ministries!

Our 2019 Donation will be to Safe Families for Children, Central Indiana. This wonderful organization works to prevent children from entering Foster care and supports the entire family by utilizing trained host homes to work with the moms and kids. We see more families reuntited over traditional foster care.

2016 Update: Here we grow again! The McMillans were thrilled to add two more children to our family through adoption. While their stories are theirs to share someday, we want to honor the fact that they are in our family (and we LOVE having them!) and also respect their on-line privacy. Our two new kiddos are wonderful puppy socializers and we frequently find them reading to our puppies or sneaking one out to watch tv or play ball with them! The McMillans are now a family of 12 (we can’t forget our two sweet daughters in law, too!)
